10 Things You Learn Rewatching Goldfinger
8. The Bond Girls Are Surprisingly Awful
Though Goldfinger is often fondly remembered for its iconic Bond girls, they sadly don't hold up very well on a modern viewing at all.
Let's begin with Jill Masterson (Shirley Eaton), who barely registers as a character before being killed off - in admittedly fascinating fashion, being "suffocated" with gold paint - and serving more as an awesome image than an actual, full-bodied character.
Then there's Jill's sister Tilly (Tania Mallet), who shows up in an awkward, contrived subplot, attempting to assassinate Goldfinger (Gert Frobe) and crossing paths with Bond in extremely convenient fashion.
She's killed by Oddjob's (Harold Sakata) hat before she gets to do much, and though at first you'd be mistaken for assuming she might return in act three, she stays dead in what's easily the most blatantly padded part of the movie.
And finally, we have the main event: the preposterously-named Pussy Galore (Honor Blackman), who initially seems like an unconventional foil for Bond, but eventually succumbs to his sexual magnetism after a rather rapey roll in the hay.
Pussy may have been a far cry from the previous Bond girls at the time, but today, she seems like just another woman made to fall all too easily for Bond's transparent "charms".
