10 Things You Learn Rewatching Goldfinger

7. There's Some Really Terrible Rear Projection

Though Goldfinger is for the most part a handsomely-mounted film, it's hard not to be distracted by the blatant use of rear-projection technology as Bond visits a Miami hotel to tail Goldfinger.

During Goldfinger's chess match and while Bond is skulking around the place, it's clear that several of the actors are merely standing against a false backdrop: the lighting is wrong, and it just doesn't feel right.

Now, again, is it fair to judge a 54-year-old film by modern standards? Totally not, and if you saw the movie as a youngster you probably either missed it entirely or just accepted it.

Today, though? It looks a little silly, largely because this sequence wasn't technically challenging in the slightest, and couldn't the crew have just rustled up some extras to film the scene for real? Bizarre.
