By now, we've seen every single incarnation of Michael Myers throughout the history of this franchise on this retrospective journey. Through all of the ups-and-downs of the sequels, there are some shining moments, but no film since the original has been able to really capture the essence of what made Michael so terrifying.

Until now.

In this film, Michael Myers is once again truly The Shape.

Part of it is thanks to a narrative that eschews all of the family drama in favor of a casual randomness to his agenda that is far more chilling. Part of it is thanks to the fact that David Gordon Green's direction is easily the closest thing to Carpenter's directorial style since that original film. But the other huge element that absolutely cannot be overlooked is the presence of Nick Castle and Tony Moran.

Castle was the actor behind the mask in the original film and while his time behind the mask in this film may be brief, his presence is very much felt in The Shape's movements and mannerisms, even after fellow Michael performer James Jude Courtney takes over.

Moran was the original actor who played the unmasked adult Michael Myers, and he also plays Michael throughout all of his early scenes without the mask in this film.

Both of these performers are legends in their own right and their work here helps to return Michael to his former glory for the first time in decades.
