10 Things You Learn Watching Halloween (2018)
5. THAT Long Take Is Amazing
Michael's first proper appearance in Haddonfield in the film is a moment that fans of the franchise are going to be talking about for years.
As trick-or-treaters roam the streets, Michael wanders from house to house, watching people and breaking into homes to murder people at random. All of this is captured in a series of two long-takes and it is absolutely staggering to watch.
This sequence immediately puts audiences right back into the mindset of the original film, between the seemingly-effortless gliding camera and Michael's acts of violence feeling completely random and entirely deranged.
It certainly doesn't hurt either that this sequence is scored by Carpenter and co.'s new Halloween Theme and that the sound design also incorporates some awesome nods to the original film's opening, from the opening synth notes to the children's trick-or-treat chanting being subtly mixed in.
David Gordon Green just gets Halloween in a way that few directors have and this sequence proves that precisely.
