10 Things You Need To Know About J.J. Abrams' Superman: Flyby

7. And A Bunch Of Other People Were Considered

The two were turned down in favour of every man in Hollywood with dark hair and chiselled chins. Whilst Tim Burton's unmade Superman movie had settled on the frankly bonkers casting of Nicolas Cage, Flyby never quite settled on a leading man. Not that it was from lack of trying on the part of the producers. Former star Christopher Reeve was brought on as a creative consultant early on, and his first choice was Tom Welling, who (at the time) starred as the young Clark Kent in superhero soap opera Smallville. The small screen also lead the casting director to That '70s Show-era Ashton Kutcher - put off by the Superman curse - and Angel's David Boreanaz. There were some bonafide film stars in the frame as well. Josh Hartnett, Jude Law, Paul Walker and Brendan Fraser were all considered, but no big name wanted to be tied down to endless sequels.
