10 Things You Need To Know About James Cameron's Spider-Man

2. His Ending Didn't Get Made Because Of 9/11

There was a lot that wasn't great about James Cameron's Spider-Man pitch. But that didn't stop half the crappy blockbusters that have been produced in the past few decades getting made, and it looked like it was on the verge of being made: Cameron was a rising star at the time, and enough money had been spent on the project at that point. So why exactly did this version of Spider-Man never see the light of day? Well, for one thing, the World Trade Centre was heavily involved. When Sam Raimi's version of the web head's cinematic debut was being teased, the short clip involved him ensnaring a getaway chopper piloted by bank robbers between the Twin Towers. Then the 9/11 attacks happened, and they had to completely retool the film's climax. A climax that was originally in Cameron's scriptment. In fact, the entire final battle in this Spider-Man story saw the hero fighting Electro and Sandman atop the World Trade Centre. Which might've been a tad insensitive.
