10 Things You Need To Know About James Cameron's Spider-Man

3. It May Have Been Rated R

Along with all of that raunchy stuff, there's a lot going on in James Cameron's Spider-Man that probably would've ended with it earning a family unfriendly R rating. This was back in 1991 after all, when studios didn't baulk so much at funnelling money into a production aimed at solely adults, instead of making every big movie completely bloodless and appropriate for all ages. Hollywood likes money. So, of course, now they try to appeal to as wide an audience as possible, because that equals a bigger box office. Cameron's Spidey came at a time when he was also working on Terminator 2, which is not particularly family friendly with the violence and the cussing either. He was clearly in a similar frame of mind when putting his scriptment together. Because besides the weird amount of rufty that was involved, this Spider-Man also involved the hero killing most of the supervillains, other adult situations, and a heck of a lot of profanity. Like, verging on Quentin Tarantino levels. Was that really necessary for Peter Parker? Probably not. Is it good it didn't get made for that reason? Probably.
