5. The Director
As well as writing, Christopher McQuarrie will also direct Mission: Impossible 5. This will mark only his second time in the director's chair for a big budget action movie as he previously worked with Cruise on Jack Reacher. That received mostly positive reviews from critics despite not reaching the heights expected at the box office, though it did do well enough for most to expect that McQuarrie's next project would be a Jack Reacher sequel. After helming the critically acclaimed Mission: Impossible: Ghost Protocol, Brad Bird sadly decided not to return for a follow-up as he instead turned his gaze towards Disney's Tomorrowland starring George Clooney. It's a shame to lose him, and the fifth instalment of the franchise will be a big test for McQuarrie. Based on Jack Reacher though, it feels like the movie is in safe hands, and he's been keeping fans updated via his Twitter account.
