10 Things You Need To Know About Sony's Spider-Man Universe Plans

Team-ups, crossovers, new heroes, and more are coming to Sony's "SUMC"!

Before teaming up with Marvel Studios, Sony Pictures was clearly struggling to get Spider-Man right. The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel were considered major disappointments, and from a creative standpoint, it was clear the studio didn't know what they were doing. Bringing the web-slinger into the MCU made things right, but with access to thousands of characters, Sony is now looking to build a shared world of their own.

That's been named the Spider-Man Universe of Marvel Characters (SUMC), and the studio is understandably confident after delivering the Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and box office hit Venom. Now, a whole host of movies are on the way, while Spidey will seemingly leap between two different - or slightly connected - worlds.

Honestly, it's a complicated time to be a Spider-Man fan. There are a lot of different projects on the way (on both the big and small screens), and figuring out where Spidey stands given the tenuous deal between Disney and Sony Pictures isn't as straightforward as it once was. Luckily for you, though, we've got you covered with an in-depth guide to Sony's SUMC plans!

There's a lot coming over the next few years, and while some of it is admittedly baffling, many of Sony's plans have the potential to be, well, spectacular...

10. The Future Could Be Female For The SUMC

Silver & Black was supposed to be a team-up movie featuring Silver Sable and Black Cat, but the pieces never fell into place due to "creative differences." As a result, it was later reported that they would receive their own solo films. Given their lack of history together in the comics, that makes way more sense too.

At the time, it was also revealed that there are plans for Jackpot and Silk to receive their own movies. Two women have held the Jackpot mantle, but neither of them were particularly exciting, and fans lost interest in the character when it was revealed that she wasn't actually Mary Jane Watson (the prevailing theory at the time). As for Silk, she received her powers from the same spider that bit Peter Parker, and there's definitely potential for Cindy Moon on the big screen.

Since then, the trades have also confirmed that a Madame Web project is being developed, though we're not sure what Sony could have planned for the elderly blind woman who happens to be a clairvoyant. If there's one thing that's clear, though, it's that female superheroes could be a huge part of the SUMC moving forward. There's also one more big name we'll get to a little later in this post who fits that description...
