10 Things You Need To Know About Sony's Spider-Man Universe Plans

6. The Spotlight Could Soon Shift To Spider-Woman

Spider Woman Jessica Drew
Marvel Comics

We alluded to this a little earlier, but the one female hero it now seems is going to be Sony's biggest priority is Spider-Woman. Jessica Drew is a character who can be used by both Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures (similar to what happened with two different versions of Quicksilver appearing in X-Men: Days of Future Past and Avengers: Age of Ultron back in 2014/2015).

However, while Marvel Studios can use her past as an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and HYDRA, the "Spider-Woman" moniker is off limits. Sony, meanwhile, can call Jessica by her superhero name, but her origin story will have to be changed.

It definitely feels like Sony got the better end of the deal there, and it's recently been revealed that Game of Thrones director Michelle MacLaren is the top choice to direct. Tomb Raider star Alicia Vikander is also high up on the studio's list when it comes to who they want to play Spider-Woman, and there's a very strong chance this could actually be the movie they recently dated for October 2021.

Josh Wilding hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
