10 Things You Need To Know About The DC Extended Universe

7. Redemption For Green Lantern And The Corps

Had 2011's Green Lantern not been a critical and commercial failure, the DC Extended Universe would have truly begun there. However, too many screenwriters, an over reliance on expensive CGI, and a lot of misguided changes to the source material meant that it was a movie no one really cared for, and by the time Man Of Steel was released, it was clear that there would be no sequel and no return for Ryan Reynolds (a shame considering the fact that he was one of the only good things about it). Because of that movie, Green Lantern is now the black sheep of the DC Extended Universe. He won't be making any sort of appearance in Batman V Superman and isn't expected to show up in Justice League until right at the very end. Warner Bros. obviously want to put as much distance between the last version and the next one as they can, but it definitely sounds as if redemption is on the horizon for the fan-favourite character when he once again stars in his own movie in 2020. And he may not be alone. At Comic-Con, it was revealed that the title of the next Green Lantern movie will be Green Lantern Corps. Seeing as how the 2011 version did such a terrible job with their CGI army of Corps members, you might think it's a mistake to revisit that, but recent rumours have pointed to the focus actually being on the team of Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart. A Green Lantern buddy cop movie? It appears as if that's the way things are going. Rather than focusing on one specific human member of this intergalactic team of space cops, Warner Bros. will be putting the spotlight on these two and taking things in a slightly different direction, but one which sounds like a lot of fun and no doubt has a lot of potential. Whether one or both of them end up joining the Justice League remains to be seen at this point, but the Green Lantern movie we've all been waiting for is just... five years away.
