8. Those Spinoffs Are Definitely Dead

Sony believed that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 would be a billion dollar hit. It was far from it, but still did respectable enough numbers. However, they spent such a huge amount on the budget and marketing costs, the sequel proved to be a failure for them overall. Back when they were a little more optimistic about its chances though, a number of spinoffs were announced, including The Sinister Six and Venom. Others were just rumoured. As expected, the Marvel deal means these are all dead, and this latest report reiterates that fact. It's a shame to lose the female led spinoff (especially as the superhero movie genre could do with more of those), but considering the fact that Sony were considering a movie starring a young Aunt May, it's probably for the best. The fate of Venom isn't clear, but it sounds like Marvel and Sony still have big plans for the villainous Sinister Six...
