10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Dumbo (1941)

8. The Truth About Casey Junior

Not many movies, Disney or not, could make an anthropomorphic train so charming. Casey Junior is the little American steam locomotive who takes the WDP circus across the country and even has his own theme song.

Surprisingly, Casey Junior was actually voiced by a woman - Margaret White (her one and only acting credit). The deep, husky voice was achieved through the then-recently invented vocoder.

The live-action film The Reluctant Dragon (1941) explained how this was achieved, and also revealed there was going to be an extended scene involving Casey Junior.

This footage provided a backstory for the locomotive, showing how he came to lead a circus train and how he was almost destroyed in a crash. Walt Disney ultimately cut this scene because it wasn't relevant enough to the plot.
