10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Netflix

7. Netflix Is The Single Largest Contributor To Internet Traffic

In May 2014, a report by internet provider Sandvine, revealed that Netflix accounts for a whopping 34.2 percent of Internet traffic in North America during evening hours. It is also the second biggest driver of Internet traffic on fixed networks in Ireland and the UK. With streaming quality increasing up to 4K HD and home internet speeds getting faster and faster, it€™s not so much of a surprise. Combine that with the fact that Netflix gained over two million subscribers in the United States in the first quarter of 2014 (bringing its total customers to 35.67 million) and you have the recipe for a sh*t-ton of data being downloaded. Interestingly, back when Netflix was just a DVD-by-mail service, before it was sapping a third of America€™s bandwidth, it was also once the fastest-growing customer of the United States Postal Service.
