10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About Netflix

6. The CEO€™s Great-Grandfather Was Instrumental In Winning World War II

Alfred Lee Loomis was an American attorney, investment banker, philanthropist and scientist. After making a fortune investing in public utilities in the 1920s, he anticipated the Wall Street Crash of 1929 and converted all his investments to cash before it hit. With his considerable wealth he established a personal laboratory, which would later become a meeting place for some of the world's most successful scientists, including Albert Einstein. During World War II, after making incredible advances in radar, British scientists went to the U.S. in order to find help in mass manufacturing their technology. Loomis was responsible for establishing research facilities at MIT, arranging funding and using his considerable influence to push the technology, despite U.S. military skepticism at the time. The result of his work was a 10cm radar small enough to mount inside a plane. It was responsible for sinking U-boats, spotting incoming bombers and provided cover during the D-Day landing. President Roosevelt later described Loomis as being second perhaps only to Churchill, in facilitating the Allied victory in World War II. And his great-grandson was instrumental in facilitating Bojack Horseman and Season 8 of Trailer Park Boys. What a family.

Created in a petri dish in an underground lab, I was originally designed by scientists to carry out high-profile assassinations for the CIA. Unfortunately, something went wrong and my only skill was writing list-based articles. So now I do that instead.
