10 Things You Probably Didn't Know About The Cloverfield Franchise
1. Chronological Shooting
For many films, including the horror and science fiction genre that the Cloverfield franchise sits under, it is extremely rare for the shooting to be done in sequence from start to finish, just like how it will appear for the movie. For both the first film and 10 Cloverfield Lane, Reeves has confirmed that the production was done just like that, ending shooting with the final shots.
For the first film, this ends with Rob and Beth, after the footage has finished taping over their trip. Aside from re-shoots, in Cloverfield lane, the same was done, with John Goodman having to wear a fake beard in the last few shots before his demise as he had already opted to shave it off before this point.
Perhaps this method was to preserve the secret nature of the film franchise from the actors and some of the crew and partly because of the ease to continue in the right order, as in the first movie the pace is quick and sometimes filmed by the actors on set.
However little we truly know about the franchise as a whole and how they are connected, the excitement still remains to see what's next.
