10 Things You Somehow Missed In Zodiac (2007)
5. The Name Of The Restaurant
It's common knowledge that the Neo-noir thriller, Dirty Harry, was based on the Zodiac Killer. Not only does the film centre around a detective tracking down a murderous psychopath, the killer in question is called Scorpio, which is a Zodiac sign.
As a result, it was no surprise when David Fincher's Zodiac made a reference to this 1971 classic. About halfway through the movie, there's a scene where Inspector David Toschi watches Dirty Harry at the cinema and becomes noticeably flustered by the film's similarities to his own case. Now, this isn't really an Easter egg since it's impossible to miss the reference. Just to hammer it in further, Toschi refers to Robert Graysmith as "Dirty Harry."
However, there's another connection to Clint Eastwood's career-defining film that some viewers didn't pick up on. In three separate scenes, Toschi visits Callahan's diner, which is a reference to the lead character in Dirty Harry, Harry Callahan. Although Callahan's is a real diner and wasn't invented just for the movie, it was probably inserted into the story as a nod to the iconic character.
