10 Thrilling Predictions For Blade In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

9. Baron Blood And Varnae Will Serve As Blade’s First Villains

The MCU will seek to differentiate itself from prior adaptations, by kicking off with a villain other than Deacon Frost, who Blade has faced in the 1998 film, the comic books, and the 2011 anime series.

If the MCU decides to utilize Blade’s British background, Baron Blood makes a compelling first adversary for Blade. Several characters in the comics have gone by the Baron Blood moniker, but the first Baron Blood, John Falsworth should be featured in Blade’s first MCU film.

Falsworth is a World War II-era English aristocrat, who was turned into a vampire by Dracula. German scientists gave Baron Blood a treatment gifting him with the ability to walk in the sunlight for short periods of time. Many MCU films feature the hero facing a dark mirror of themselves, so a daywalker versus daywalker rivalry could be the focal point of Blade’s first solo adventure. It would make a lot of sense.

A sequel film should further explore Blade’s supernatural world by delving into the origin of the vampire species and letting Blade challenge the first vampire in Marvel comics history. In Marvel’s ancient history, a group of Atlantean sorcerers transformed their fellow enchanter Varnae into a vampire by casting a spell from a book known as the Darkhold, a grimoire featured in the Marvel television series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and Runways. Varnae provides a unique challenge for Blade because he is older and even more powerful than Dracula and has an extensive knowledge of magic.
