10 Time Travel Movies To See Before You Die
8. Looper
Before Johnson decided to travel a long time ago to a galaxy far, far away, he busted out this instant genre classic with his trademark neo-noir bent.
Two-time Johnson collaborator, Joseph Gordon-Levitt makes ends meet as Joe, a young wise guy-esque 'looper' who assassinates people the mob send back from the future; the perfect crime.
Loopers end their contract by assassinating their older selves, thereby closing their own loops, and are free to live out the rest of their lives on plenty of dirty mob money.
But something goes wrong and Joe's future self (Bruce Willis) survives, disrupting the timelines and bringing worlds of violence and chaos with him. Wackiness and time travelling exploits ensue.
This is one to watch not only for the winding, looping, independent and simultaneous timelines (as opposed to a single, ever-changing reality), or the balance of sci-fi thrills with an overwhelmingly human core. It's also for the fact that is was one of the last times Bruce Willis genuinely went all-in, and didn't just show up and read lines.
Plus, who hasn't wanted to see Gordon-Levitt's best Bruce Willis impersonation?
