10 Times Actors And Directors Disagreed On Their Film's Story

5. Ray Fisher, Gal Gadot And Joss Whedon - Justice League

After Zack Snyder’s sudden and tragic stepping down from DCEU crossover Justice League, the studio hired Avengers director Joss Whedon to ‘complete’ Snyder’s vision before its November 2017 release.

At first, it seemed that Whedon was brought in to do more than rewrite a few scenes and film minor additional content but this was far from the truth. This drastic and volatile shift in production sensibilities, coupled with Whedon’s own reprehensible behaviour did not sit right with the film’s stars, especially Ray Fisher and Gal Gadot.

The two actors have made public their displeasure with Whedon’s changes to the story and the way he handled their characters. Fisher was frustrated by Cyborg's reduced backstory and agency and Gadot was none too impressed by Wonder Woman's objectification (specifically a scene where the Flash falls on her body). In addition to this, both actors also accused Whedon of racist and sexist behaviour in between takes.

Once Snyder's original vision for the superhero team-up was released in March 2021, it became clear that their concerns were ignored in favour of last minute studio demands and the director’s own ego and problematic behaviour.
