10 Times Actors Were PISSED OFF At Film Premieres
9. David Prowse Didn't Know His Darth Vader Voice Had Been Dubbed - Star Wars
The role of Star Wars' suited-up Darth Vader was played by David Prowse, while the imposing voiceover was of course provided by the legendary James Earl Jones in post-production.
However, Prowse also spoke all of Vader's lines himself on set, and whether a result of miscommunication or not, was under the belief that his voice would indeed be used in the final film.
Apparently George Lucas decided that Prowse's pronounced West Country accent - which led to him being nicknamed "Darth Farmer" by the cast and crew - wasn't a good fit for the character, and after briefly considering Orson Welles for the part, he settled on Jones.
Though there are conflicting reports about whether or not Prowse truly was intended to be the original Vader voice, it's clear that the actor himself believed that was the case, and so when he sat down at Star Wars' premiere, he was in for quite the shock.
Speaking recently of his replacement, Prowse said, "To a certain extent, I do still feel resentful. I didn't know that they'd overdubbed my voice until I saw the movie. It came as a big surprise."
It was certainly a smart change all things considered, though it would've simply been good etiquette to make sure Prowse knew exactly what he was being hired for.
