Many fans give Snyder a hard time for his Batman having no qualms about taking life in defiance of Batman's edict to never kill, but Tim Burton's 1989 version of the character acted in an equally bloodthirsty way.

At one point in Batman's confrontation with the Joker, he decides that he's had enough of his cat-and-mouse games with the Clown Prince of Crime and uses the Batmobile to wage an all out assault on Joker's hideout.

After blasting through the gate of the factory that Joker has made his lair, Batman drops two bombs from the Batmobile with absolutely no consideration for any collateral damage. Was Batman sure all the factory workers were off that night or that every henchmen in Joker's employ deserved to be exploded without trial? Ultimately, Batman didn't care. He only cared about winning his contest with Joker, no matter how many lives were ended along the way.

This wanton taking off life is perhaps all the more disturbing since Joker escapes anyway and Batman doesn't pause to reflect on his ultimately futile gesture.
