10 Times Borat Went Too Far

6. Country Steve Performance (Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm)

Once again proving that there’s no boundary he won’t push, Cohen donned a double disguise to attend an anti-current global health crisis rally taking place in Olympia, Washington.

In character as Borat, he pretended to be a Donald Trump supporting country singer known as ‘Country Steve’, who somehow managed to get on stage at the event and perform a song for the crowd.

At one point, ‘Steve’ asked the crowd what they wanted to do to journalists. Either ‘inject them with the Wuhan flu’ or ‘chop ‘em up like the Saudis do’. The crowd enthusiastically responded with the second one, which is hilarious and terrifying in equal measure.

‘Country Steve’ also sang about Obama being an American hating traitor and how the coronavirus pandemic was a liberal hoax, also to the delight of the crowd.

Borat has always managed to make bigots feel as though they’re safe to express their most deep-seated hatred on camera and the overwhelmingly positive reaction from the rally’s audience is a prime example of just how chilling the effect can be.
