9. Yondu's Sacrifice - Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. II
The Guardians of the Galaxy has become known as some of the more lighthearted entries in the MCU. If you're not totally onboard with something like Thor or the Avengers, this rag tag team of warriors with an adorable tree is one of the most loveable casts in superhero history. Every character brings their A-game, but that makes it sting that much more when we see them go.
Most of the sequel deals with Peter Quill trying to reconnect with his estranged father Ego, only to have it blow up in his face when he finds out that he only wants his son to suit his own needs. As things start to look more bleak, Ravager and Quill's adoptive father Yondu comes in to save the day, with Rocket and Groot in tow for good measure.
Everything seems to be going well once Peter gets the upper hand, but once Ego's planet starts to crumble, Yondu saves him while sacrificing himself to the vacuum of space.
It's bad enough to have to kill your own father, but to see your adoptive father die before your eyes becomes too much for Quill to bear, leading to him having a near breakdown while in orbit. Yondu was always known as a bit of an ass-hole in the Guardians franchise, but this redemptive arc was not lost on any of his friends.
