10 Times Comic Book Movies Made Us Cry

4. Starlord's Origin - Guardians of the Galaxy

Seriously, why do the fun superhero movies have to have all the heavy moments? For as much concentrated awesomeness is accounted for in the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, it has more than a few sobering moments, from Rocket's emotional breakdown to Groot sacrificing himself for the good of the team, our introduction to some of the most enduring characters in the MCU was definitely a lot to get through. Then again, it's not like they were subtle about it either.

Long before Star-Lord is introduced by jamming to his Awesome Mix while retrieving an orb, we get a peek into his childhood back on Earth, where he sees his mother dying of cancer. Set to the tune of 10cc's heartbreaking track "I'm Not In Love," young Peter Quill is called into his mother's room at the end. Being too scared to take his mother's hand, he watches her die and runs away, only to be captured by an alien ship just seconds afterward.

Not only does this offer some insight into Star-Lord's backstory, but it makes it all the more tragic when you realise that the awesome tunes he's been listening to are all that he has left of his mother. MCU fans have been somewhat used to these emotional moments, but if this one scene doesn't make you wet your eyes, you might be made of stone.
