10 Times Directors Projected Their Strange Fetishses In Mainstream Movies

2. Stanley Kubrick - Bathrooms

Kubrick would seem to have a fetish for bathrooms, or is at least a bit weirdly fascinated with them. In many of his movies, scenes take place in bathrooms, and those scenes are very significant to the movie. For instance, in A Clockwork Orange (1972), Alex sings "Singing in the Rain" while in a bath tub in the house of a man whose wife he raped and killed, which leads to the discovery of who Alex is. Bathrooms have the same kind of importance in Dr. Strangelove, Lolita, 2001: A Space Oddysey, Full Metal Jacket and Eyes Wide Shut, to name a few. The most famous of his bathrooms is probably the one of Room 237 in The Shining, which appears in the movie more than once. It's probably even host to the most haunting scenes of the movie. The lead character, Jack, legendarily portrayed by Jack Nicholson, finds a ghost in the bathroom's tub, disguised as a beautiful woman. It seduces him and Jack soon finds out the ghost is not pretty at all, but instead is a decomposed woman, laughing. It's definitely one of The Shining's many haunting scenes in a bathroom.
