10 Times DVD Extras Lost Their Mind
7. Learn To Cook - Once Upon A Time In Mexico
Robert Rodriguez is a pretty damn good film maker - and arguably also a pretty good cook. Combine this with a penchant for adding ten minute features in DVDs of his work, and you have an almost inevitable conclusion.
And so, the DVD extras for Once Upon a Time in Mexico contains the "10 Minute Cooking School", which features Robert cooking up some Puerco Pubil, which is a rice meal we see in the film itself.
It's incredibly sweet, really, because the video itself is somewhere between a Youtube cooking tutorial and your friend or family showing you this cool recipe they know.
It also reveals that Rodriguez keeps a little menu of foods he's especially good at cooking in his house, which he explains he has so that when people come round they can choose what meal they want to eat. This is unmistakably one of the sweetest details to learn about someone by accident, and is also wild to have as an extra feature on a notably gritty film.
Many of the creator's other films also contain this feature on their DVD editions - for example, the film Grindhouse contains a classic Texas BBQ.
Now that DVDs are mostly a thing from the past, we can only hope and dream that Rodriguez makes a cooking channel. For our sakes.
