That's not to say that there aren't female characters or female readers - there most certainly are - but there are certainly more male characters and male readers than there are females. Consequently, the movies based on said comics are also male-dominated. You can count on one hand the number of female titular comic book movies there have been in recent years (Catwoman, Elektra...) and you can probably count on two hands the total number of female titular comic book movies there have been in movie history (Supergirl, Barb Wire, Vampirella, Tank Girl...). The Marvel Cinematic Universe is no exception. Marvel Studios are yet to produce a female-led movie in their ongoing and hugely successful franchise - with the likes of Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Captain America having been chosen for solo instalments so far - but don't think that this means female characters haven't had their moments in the spotlight.
