10 Times Hollywood Failed To Adapt World Cinema
1. The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
Stieg Larsson’s Millennium trilogy of novels had already been made into successful films in Sweden; their original setting. Although the third was disappointing, these films were true to the books and well received by critics.
Known for his grittiness in past works like Seven, Fight Club and Zodiac, David Fincher had a turn at bringing Larsson’s dark world to life in 2011. With Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara in the lead roles, it wasn’t a bad film at all. It’s a shame, then, that the series was never continued, and the story never finished.
Fede Álvarez rebooted the series in 2018, but with a new cast, and a story not even by Larsson. Too little too late from Hollywood. We recommend ignoring this one altogether, and going straight back to the original trilogy, directed by Niels Arden Oplev and Daniel Alfredson. The whole story is there, and they're great films.
