10 Times James Bond Should Have Been Killed

9. The World Is Not Enough

The World Is Not Enough Torture Pierce Brosnan Sophie Marceau James Bond Elektra King

Pierce Brosnan's third outing as Bond is a solid enough outing that features one of the great pre credit sequences and a superb femme fatale. Sophie Marceau plays the complex Elektra King to perfection, her manipulative manner persuading Bond into the bedroom while casting herself as an innocent victim rather than the primary villain that she is.

The only issue with her character stems from her bizarre choice of torturing her ex lover rather than just killing him. With Bond captured and ready to be dispensed, Elektra instead decides to tortured him via the use of an antique chair that seconds as a strangling mechanism. The scene is full of tension but leaves the viewer scratching their heads.

Like the previous entry on this list, the decision to torture rather than just kill Bond could have worked if taken in isolation. But considering she had attempted on no less than three occasions in the previous thirty minutes of the film to kill the British spy, taking her time to torture him with an antiquated chair just made no sense.
