10 Times James Bond Turned Into A Complete Psychopath
3. That Time He Left Dominic Greene Out In The Desert - Quantum Of Solace
Quantum Of Solace may have been one of the poorer recent Bond films, but it at least continued where Casino Royale left off in exploring the continuing evolution of precocious young agent James Bond into 007, psychopathic super spy. Marc Forster's film, for all its tangled plotting and frankly boring set-pieces, gave audiences their first tantalising glimpse of the sadistic douche bag they knew Daniel Craig's Bond would eventually morph into. At the end of the film, it turns out Quantum Of Solace's lead baddie, a diminutive, fairly non-threatening businessman by the name of Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), has been hoarding Bolivia's water supply in order to create a monopoly and make significant profits for himself. Apparently, the Bond of Quantum Of Solace has become some kind of "We Are The 99%" eco-warrior, as he finds Greene's crime so insulting that he leaves Greene stranded in the middle of the Bolivian desert to die of thirst. In order to add insult to injury, Bond throws Greene a can of oil, adding, "I bet you make it 20 miles before you consider drinking that". That's a subtle joke - Bond knows Greene will probably be dead before he makes it 20 miles in that heat. Hilarious.
Lover of film, writer of words, pretentious beyond belief. Thinks Scorsese and Kubrick are the kings of cinema, but PT Anderson and David Fincher are the dashing young princes. Follow Brogan on twitter if you can take shameless self-promotion: @BroganMorris1
