10 Times Marvel Sabotaged The MCU

Most MCU directors (especially in its early days) are what most would call 'journeymen directors', reliable and competent in their craft but their work is nothing revelatory. This has changed with the inclusion of directors such as Ryan Coogler and Sam Raimi, but for the most part the MCU relies on filmmakers with conventional approaches that can safely fit in its house style.

This is why it was surprising to see Edgar Wright joining the franchise to helm the Ant-Man film back in the early 2010s. Wright had written a treatment for the picture long before the MCU was formed, and when it was time to work on the film for the franchise, he was told to alter it to fit what Marvel had in mind.

After a few delays, the movie was ready to go but Wright left after having to compromise his vision multiple times to fit Marvel's more conventional plans. Ultimately, the auteur was replaced by Peyton Reed, who went on to direct two Ant-Man films, with a third slated for next year. While Reed's work was satisfactory, one wonders what Wright could have done had he stuck around.
