After the catastrophic events at the end of Avengers: Infinity War that left half the universe to turn to dust, audiences got their first glimpse of the next hero to be introduced in the franchise, as Nick Fury sends out a pager signal to Captain Marvel before meeting his dusty demise.

Although fans were excited to see the female superhero swoop in to save the day in her own solo film and in the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, there was much confusion as to where she had been earlier. The events of Carol Danvers' movie took place in the 1990s, where she first meets Fury and learns about the full potential of her superpowers, which begs the question of where she had been in the almost 20 years it took Nick to contact her again.

In Avengers: Endgame, Danvers does say that there are lot more planets in trouble that do not have superheroes to help them out, but surely an extra-terrestrial invasion in The Avengers would have come up on her radar as a major threat?

Did Fury think that his new band of superheroes could do without her? Even a warning could have been useful, surely?
