10 Times MCU Movies Missed Out Key Plot Points

9. Pietro And Wanda's Father Is Magneto - Avengers: Age Of Ultron

THOR 4 Lady Thor

Before the Disney/Fox merger, most mutant characters were off the table for the MCU. However a few characters managed to fall into a legal grey area. It was inevitable that Marvel would take advantage of the loophole and despite having minimal roles in the Age of Ultron comics, we were introduced to the Maximoffs. The pair are mutants in the source material, but at the time Marvel couldn't even use the word mutant, nevermind include them in the MCU. The studio had to come up with a completely new backstory in order to use the characters.

After a bomb destroyed their family home, Pietro And Wanda were captured and held captive by Baron Von Strucker. He used the power of the Tessaract to experiment with the twins, giving them their abilities. The comic origin is drastically different, the twins are actually son and daughter of everyone's favourite magnetic mutant.

It's unlikely Marvel Studios will backtrack on the origins laid out already, even with the rights to mutants. Quicksilver was killed off pretty quickly and Scarlet Witch is already well established, so when Magneto finally returns to our cinema screens, there won't be much need for a retcon. Unfortunately this means some iconic arcs - such as House of M - will be never come to the MCU.
