Some movies stick close to the source material, Captain America: Civil War is not one of those films. There's no denying that the Russo's did amazing work on this movie but compared to the comic event, the story is a little bare. There are parallels between the page and the screen. For instance, both had a huge Spider-Man moments. Peter reveals his secret identity to the world in the comic, while the movie revealed the web slinger for the first time in continuity. The conflict in both versions of the story centres around the Superhuman Registration Act (Sokovia Accords in the MCU), but after that the similarities are few and far between.

The question of why Steve Rodgers, a man faithful to the American government, would oppose the legislation is never really addressed in the MCU. His reasoning is vague and based on his view of what is right and wrong. Brian Michael Bendis delved deeper into what causes Cap's view when S.H.I.E.L.D tries to enlist him to track down his friends who were violating the new law. After refusing to join the mission, the "Cape-Killers" were sent to attack Rodgers.

Spider-Man's involvement in the main fight was one of the most exciting features of the movie, yet the wall crawler could have played an even larger part. Alongside the secret identity reveal, Peter switched sides after being attacked by the Jester III and Jack O'Lantern who have joined new Thunderbolts team.

That's only two examples, the adaption also left out a Thor clone made by Tony Stark and Hank Pym, the Fantastic Four's involvement and the death of Captain America.
