10 Times Movie Sequels Abandoned Major Storylines

5. Mister Mind Is Out - Shazam: Fury Of The Gods

Many suspected Shazam: Fury of the Gods would bomb long before it hit theatres. After it was announced that DC Films was heading in a new direction under James Gunn, there was little interest in the cinematic universe's remaining instalments. Not only that, the superhero comedy wasn't promoted that much, or that well.

Another potential reason why hardcore fans didn't flock to see Shazam 2 was because it didn't incorporate long-time supervillain, Mister Mind, despite him being teased in Shazam's post-credits scene.

As a telepathic worm from Venus, many assumed Mister Mind would be too silly to work in the DCEU. But after hearing his chilling voice (performed by the director himself, David F. Sandberg), fans were pumped to see the world's mightiest mortal duke it out with this crazy caterpillar.

But to our disappointment, Sandberg decided not to implement Mister Mind into Fury of the Gods.

Instead, the sequel has Billy Batson's alter-ego battling Hespera and Kalypso - two characters who never appeared in the comics. Although there's nothing wrong with the villains themselves, it's strange how the sequel sidelined one of Shazam's most popular foes, especially after he had such a memorable introduction in the previous film.
