10 Times Prosthetics Nearly Broke An Actor

8. Tim Curry - Legend

Arguably one of the most impressive uses of prosthetic makeup you'll ever see came during Ridley Scott's 1985 epic dark adventure feature Legend.

To create Tim Curry's formidable Lord of Darkness in the film, the actor was required to spend about five and-a-half hours in the makeup chair every day he was needed due to his body having to be fully encased in a cast.

Once he was done being a 13 foot tall bright red demon for the day, Curry would then have to sit in a bath for an hour to dissolve all the spirit glue which held the prosthetics in place. However, on one particular day, the actor was so tired of the tedious process that he decided to tear the pieces from his skin too quickly. In doing so he pulled his actual skin off and was forced to spend a week recovering from the gruesome injury.

His three feet fibre glass horns also originally caused him so much distress - despite being held up by a harness - that they were later adjusted to be lighter.

This obviously wasn't Curry's last experience with prosthetics - as he famously took on the now-legendary role of Pennywise a few years later - but it was undoubtedly his most painful.
