10 Times Star Wars Gave Fans What Wanted (and They Hated It)

8. Reincorporate Darth Maul Into The Movies

As crushingly disappointing as The Phantom Menace was, at least the prequel introduced fan-favourite, Darth Maul. After this Dathomirian Sith gave us the greatest lightsaber battle in the entire franchise, everyone were desperate to see more of him.

Unfortunately, Maul was cut in two during the movie's climax, making his return seemingly impossible.

Due to fervent demand, The Emperor's former apprentice was brought back as a recurring villain in the animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. As a bonus, Maul was turned into a fascinating and tragic character, rather than a mute grunt.

But it wasn't enough, since we still wanted him to reappear in live-action. So, when he finally showed up at the end of Solo: A Star Wars Story, you'd assume everyone was happy.

There was a problem. You see, there are millions of die-hard Star Wars fans who've never seen any of the shows. Because of this, viewers didn't understand how Maul was alive (and still had his lower body intact). Although it's explained how he cheated death in The Clone Wars, a lot of people watching Solo were clueless.

However, there were many fans of The Clone Wars who hated this scene in Solo. Because his appearance was shoved into the last scene, it came across as unsubtle fan-service. Since Maul has yet to make another appearance in live-action, this cameo feels all the more unnecessary.
