10 Times Star Wars Totally Trolled You

1. Palpatine’s Return

"Somehow, Palpatine returned."

That's it.

That's all the explanation we got for how the former Emperor Palpatine survived getting thrown down a bottomless shaft (and then blown to kingdom come) in Return of the Jedi.

Somehow.

After setting up Kylo Ren as the new main villain, the folks at Disney went for the safest of safe options and brought back Palpatine as the actual antagonist of The Rise of Skywalker.

After spending so much time establishing a new set of characters with a new set of motivations, it all came down to the wrinkly wizard who had been dead since 1983.

Disney totally freaked out about the polarised feedback to The Last Jedi and tried to steady the ship in the laziest way possible. Without offering any sort of clarification, Palpatine was back and we all just had to deal with it.

Plain and simple, this was one big slap in the face to anyone who had invested themselves in the new films. After so many years and so much money poured down the drain, this was the conclusion they got?

Truly, that is more evil than anything Darth Sidious ever did.
