10 Times The MCU Betrayed Your Trust

3. Nick Fury's Eye (Captain Marvel)

There is no doubt that Nick Fury is the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s resident badass. As the Director of SHIELD he was scared of nothing, and his mysterious past only added to his character and gravitas. The epitome of this was his trademark eye patch.

For the first decade of his time in the MCU there was absolutely no explanation for it. Tony Stark made a few wise cracks, and in The Winter Soldier that Fury himself explained that it was the last time he trusted someone that he lost his eye. How cool was that?!

However, when Captain Marvel came around, based in the 90’s with a two eyed Nick Fury, fans were given the answer to the mystery. A quick line about Fury trusting Goose with the Tesseract was shoe-horned in, before the flerkin scratched his eye, forever damaging it.

Seriously, this was it? It was scratched by what was essentially a cat? It wasn’t even like it was one of his flerkin tentacles. What a ridiculously underwhelming and irritating revelation. Like the story behind Han Solo’s name, maybe some mysteries are better off staying mysteries.
