10 Totally Unanswered Questions From Your Favourite Christmas Films
4. Elf - Orphanage Lock Down
I don't imagine it would be easy to steal a child from an orphanage. Nor do I imagine it would be easy to explain how you lost a baby in an orphanage. Why, then, is there no repercussion towards the orphanage when "Buddy", in infant form, goes missing? What happened to the orphanage? What happened to the nuns? Was there a scandal, like the Lindbergh baby? Or was it not a big deal because "Buddy" was an orphan? Perhaps police just swept it under the rug. Or maybe the nuns didn't report anything because it was God's decision for the baby to go missing. I understand that family friendly movies, such as Elf, will try to stay away from heavier topics that not all audience members will understand, like the dismantling of a religious non-profit organization for negligence, but I feel as though this should have been addressed - at least a little. Perhaps even in a funny way, like Walter Hobbes making a comment to the nun that wants his publishing company to continue donating books to children.
