10 Totally Unnecessary Movie Sequels That Everybody Wants Anyway
6. Big Trouble In Little China 2
This, of course, only applies if you've actually seen John Carpenter's Big Trouble in Little China. Nowhere near enough people have, which is a total travesty. So the world isn't going to fall apart if a belated sequel to a relatively obscure cult movie that flopped at the box office 30 years ago doesn't get made, but if you happen to be a fan of Big Trouble then you know exactly why a follow-up would be great. Kurt Russell starred in this B-movie homage to kung-fu and fantasy flicks as one Jack Burton, who is arguably the funniest (and certainly the most egotistical) action heroes to have emerged from that period people call '80s cinema. Russell played Burton - a truck driver who gets caught up in a centuries old battle in Chinatown - with all the gusto of a John Wayne hero; the results - and his Wayne impressive - made for hilarious viewing. So Big Trouble In Little China 2 would pick up where the last film left off, with Jack facing off against that terrifying monster who hitched a ride on his truck following the events of the first movie. The ending was originally played as a funny cliffhanger, of course, but it could have easily lead to a sequel (a follow-up was planned at one time, but it never came together). Likelihood? Almost none. Hollywood doesn't care. Fair enough: should it ever get made, it'd probably stand as the ultimate example of an unnecessary sequel. Still, wouldn't it be great?
