10 Totally Unnecessary Movie Sequels That Everybody Wants Anyway
5. The Raid 3
When The Raid first exploded onto the scene in 2011, it brought a bit of life back into a genre that had begun to feel a tad lackluster in recent years. As an exercise in pure martial arts expose, it delivered one of the most memorable action movies in years - and the some. It was followed by The Raid 2 in 2014, of course - impressive, dizzying and relentless, but somehow less interesting in its need to go "bigger." The Raid 2 also tried its hand at incorporating a "story," but for the most part it fell flat: a simple case of trying to have its cake and eat it, too. As a result, The Raid 2 is probably a sensible place to leave the series. And yet, the thought of a third (and possibly final) chapter in Gareth Evans' balls to the walls martial arts franchise still sounds appealing; after all, the finale of The Raid 2 opened up the possibility of more Rama-related adventures - even if the movie's hero seemed to call it a day with regards to kicking and punching the hell out of hundreds of people at the end of the flick. The Raid 3 isn't a movie that needs to exist; the first two movies are good enough to cement this franchise as one that managed to go out on a high note. Still, it's hard to resist the idea of Rama coming back for one last chapter. Likelihood? Pretty good. Gareth Evans has talked about a potential third movie, but has stated that fans probably won't get to see it until at least 2018.
