April Fools Day is another slasher revolving around a holiday, and it doesnt sound like it would be anything special. In actuality it's really an incredibly effective entry into the genre, though, and it gives viewers two huge revelations for the price of one. The film follows a bunch of college friends who celebrate their Spring Break on a remote island leading up to April Fools Day, and they stay with their friend Muffy at her mansion. Things quickly turn serious when people start to go missing one by one. Soon the first twist comes: Muffy has a crazy twin sister named Buffy. The Muffy weve been watching the whole movie has actually been the twin, and their friend was murdered hours ago. Shortly after, theres the second twist: the entire movie was just a dress rehearsal. The real Muffy is fine, and she's turning the mansion into a resort that offers a weekend of staged horror, so the whole film was just practice for that. Its reminiscent of the ending of The Game, and while it might sound cheap, its pretty clever and really catches you off guard. Plus the title is appropriate, because the movie cant stop playing jokes on the audience the entire way through, and it's surprisingly fun to be fooled.
