In the age of the Internet, it's become increasingly difficult to make a movie with a massive surprise, as the ending to Orphan was leaked online weeks before it came out. Even if you haven't seen it, you likely already know the secret, but if you don't, you absolutely must watch the film before it gets ruined. This is an experience unlike any other. The marketing for Orphan plays up the idea that something is wrong with the little girl, Ester, and it sure isn't anything easy to guess. A couple adopts a 9-year-old from an orphanage, but she soon turns into a handful and eventually starts killing people. Inevitably, viewers are led to recall every movie they've ever seen about evil children, most of whom are either possessed or maybe the spawn of Satan and assume that what's happening here. Nope. In the final act, it's explained that Ester is not actually a kid. She's a 33-year-old woman with a hormone disorder that stunts her growth. Woah. Ester has a history of being adopted by families, trying to seduce the father, and then murdering them if she's rejected. It's an awesome reveal because we spend the whole time wondering what's wrong with this child, but we never consider that our information could be completely incorrect.
