Silent House is notable both for a solid performance from Elizabeth Olsen and for the fact that the movie plays out in one long continuous shot, but the plot itself is also fairly interesting, with an ending that will make you reconsider everything. The movie follows a woman named Sarah, who's staying with her father and uncle at their countryside house. Someone breaks in, Sarah's father is knocked unconscious, and all hell starts to break loose. Sarah keeps seeing flashes of a young girl and an older man, who seems to be taking creepy pictures, and she continues to suffer from all sorts of hallucinations. In the final act, we find out what's really going on: Sarah was abused as a girl by her father, and the things she's been seeing all have to do with her repressed memories. Now, she has to get revenge on her dad and her uncle, who knew about the abuse but did nothing to stop it. Instantly, Silent House turns into a compelling story about a woman recovering from a traumatic experience rather than simply another spooky haunted house movie, and so it's one of those twists elevates an okay movie into a pretty good one.
