10 Toughest Dilemmas In Horror Movies

9. Would You Kill Your Wife's Murderer But Let Them "Win"? - Se7en

Saw VI Carousel
New Line Cinema

David Fincher's Se7en concludes with one of the most literally horrific climaxes in film history, regardless of genre. Detective Mills (Brad Pitt) learns that serial killer John Doe (Kevin Spacey) has murdered his pregnant wife (Gwyneth Paltrow) and delivered her decapitated head to him in a box.

This symbolises the sixth sin, envy, as Doe was jealous of Mills' life, and as an incensed Mills tries to process all this, his partner Somerset (Morgan Freeman) urgently reminds him that if he kills Doe in response, he'll commit the seventh and final sin, wrath, allowing Doe to win his sick game.

It is of course extremely difficult, if not impossible, to make a rational decision moments after learning your wife and unborn child have been brutally murdered, but what do you do?

Do you let your rage overpower you and exact a vengeful pound of flesh, or dig deep and find whatever ounce of restraint remains, and refuse to let Doe win, as would mythologise him in the annals of serial killer lore?

Nobody could really say for sure unless they were put in this position themselves - and, thankfully, they surely won't be - but in Mills' case he opts to shoot Doe dead on the spot, completing the cycle. And honestly, can you blame him at all?
