10 Tragic Movie Endings That Probably Had Awesome Silver Linings

7. Revolutionary Road

The Tragic Ending: Frank and April Wheeler (Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet), with their beautiful house in the suburbs and two happy children, seem like the perfect couple with everything sown together. Which, it becomes clear very quickly, is not true at all, because both husband and wife have grown to near-enough despise one another, both wishing something exciting or terrible will happen just to drag them out of the tedium of 1950s American existence. This ends with April getting accidentally pregnant, and trying to abort the baby herself, via a method that even in the age of nuclear-powered cars and telephone booth stuffing (the planking of its day) would have been deemed €˜risky€™. April dies attempting to abort the child, and Frank moves to the city with the kids to forget it all. The Silver Lining: It would seem Frank€™s turned over a new leaf by the end of the film, spending more time with his kids and dedicating himself to a life he hitherto couldn€™t understand. Just as long as he doesn€™t mention to his firstborn the time Mom called her a €œmistake€, everything€™s probably going to be OK.
