9. The Revelation Of The Fate Of Hawkeye's Family

Ultimately, the "mystery" of Hawkeye's absence from Infinity War was pretty straight-forward in the end - he had chosen to remain under house arrest for the sake of his family (just as Ant-Man had). It also suggests that his impending return to active duty for Avengers 4 might have ominous ramifications.

Given the fact that he is also predicted to be returning as Ronin rather than Hawkeye - the darker, edgier persona adopted by Clint Barton after his resurrection when he's killed during the House of M event - it's hard to escape the idea that something tragic has happened to him.

The moment we discovered Barton had a family in Age Of Ultron marked him out as dead meat, but what if the whole point of that set-up was to foreshadow him losing everything and taking a turn towards more uncompromising darkness? After all, the character is due something of a makeover (to match his substance with his fandom) and the tragic backstory, unfortunately, makes the most sense. Audiences love nothing more than heroes driven to desperation by the deaths of their family.
