10 Trailers That Should Make You Nervous About 2017's Biggest Movies

6. The Mummy - Trailer 2

Before the trailer for The Mummy dropped, curious movie-goers sat around wondering a) what the hell Hollywood were doing remaking The Mummy already and b) what the hell Tom Cruise was doing in it. The trailer, unfortunately, does little to shed any light on these highly important questions.

Going by the brief minutes we've been permitted to see, The Mummy appears to be a perfect hybrid of two completely different movies, almost as if the trailer came to exist as a result of a mash-up, where footage from two films - a generic Tom Cruise action film and a generic blockbuster featuring a fictional character whose rights have lapsed into the public domain - had been spliced together.

Take out the supernatural elements (which do not suit the Tom Cruise vibe at all) and this is just Mission: Impossible 6, isn't it? And we can't ignore the bizarre inclusion of Russell Crowe as Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, appearing purely to establish the notion of a cinematic universe that nobody asked for.

There are few trailers quite as jarring as the one that the team behind The Mummy have gifted to us. Each and every single one of the reviews for this movie will no doubt be forced to use the term "tone-confused," because if the trailer is tone-confused, what hope is there for the final product?
